We are accepting new Cub Scouts!

Our group, Pack 202, is based out of New Hyde Park, we have meetings in the Denton Ave Elementary school and most of our cub scouts are students at the Denton Ave school or the Searingtown School. If you’re in the district and go to the Center Street School, have a talk with our friends over in Pack 201. Elementary age children are eligible to join. You don’t have to be a student within the New Hyde Park school district to participate, you can be at a private school, home school, etc. You can join at any time through the year. Once your child joins we place them in an age/schoolgrade appropriate “Den” within the larger Pack structure. Each Den has a Youth Protection Trained Den Leader and the Pack is lead by an experienced and trained Cubmaster.

The Basic Schedule

Our Dens meet once a month for activities. We work on Cub Scout Advancement through the ‘ranks’. Scouts should be able go to each monthly Den meeting. This allows scouts to earn their ‘rank’ for the year. The Pack as a whole also has monthly meetings. We hold meetings from September to June, following the general school year. You scout might do group work on knot tying or creating a skit. Other times they might be on an outing to one of the many great preserves and parks on Long Island. Each year we hold a Cub Scout Pinewood Derby toy car race. Moreover, at the end of the year we have our “Blue & Gold” Advancement Ceremony. We also do a few single night camping trips where the parent and scout use their own tent and we cookout and camp as a group. Many of our own families camped out for the first time through our program. Accordingly, we are very supportive of families that haven’t camped before.

Parent and Family Involvement

Pack parents are very involved in their kid’s activities. Cub scouting is not a drop off service. This is a good advantage of the cub scouting organization: providing fun activities for you and you child to enjoy together and for them to also participate in with their friends. We’re also a very family friendly pack, siblings of elementary school age are welcome to hang out during the meetings and very often get to participate in the activities at meetings and especially outings.
